Perquimans County Farmers' Market
Grand Opening: May 26, 2010

Thanks to a generous grant provided by Rural Advancement Foundation, International, Perquimans will be home to a new Farmers' Market. The Perquimans Farmers' Market will operate on Wednesdays at Missing Mill Park, Hertford, NC.  

History of 2010 Perquimans County Farmers' Market Project Prior to March 17, 2009:

Many different constituents and individuals in Perquimans County express desire for a local Farmers' Market.   March 17: Glenda Maynard spots email from USDA re: grants up to 100K to fund Farmers Markets and forwards it to Sarah Weeks and Lynwood Winslow.   March 31: Glenda Maynard sends email to various interest groups: Historic Hertford, Town of Hertford, Town of Winfall, Perquimans County, Agricultural Extension, etc. inviting those interested to attend the first Farmers' Market planning session. April 27:  Planning session #1 attended by Dave Goss, Connie Jaklic, Lee Kapleau, Sarah Weeks, Mike Rethford, Lynne Raymond, Lori Walker, Chris McClung, Marjorie Rayburn, Brandon Shoaf. Sessions continue: June 8, July 13, August 28 (Concerned Citizens of Perquimans County), September 14, October 12, November 9 (Forced Field Analysis), March 15.  Guests and report include Farmer Glenn Rogerson of Chowan County, Denise Richards & Wayne Harris of Elizabeth City Downtown Market, Sharon Mizell & Michelle Credle of Organic Food Buyers Club.  Late October/early November: Kenny Haines visits Glenda Maynard and provides information on RAFI grant. November 19: Glenda Maynard attends RAFI-USA grant workshop given by Pat Clark at Perquimans County Extension office.  Lewis Smith and Denise Richards are also in attendance. December 14: Lynne Raymond mails completed RAFI application to meet December 16 deadline.  Writers/contributors are: Glenda Maynard (forms, narrative and budget), Dave Goss (narrative), Marjorie Rayburn (narrative). February 5: Glenda Maynard receives phone call from Pat Clark that grant application has been selected for second round interviews. February 18: Glenda Maynard, Glenn Rogerson, Kenny Haines, Lynne Raymond attend interviews for RAFI selection in Williamston at Martin County Extension office. March 15: RAFI awards Perquimans County Farmers Market with $30,000 grant. April 13: PCRA hosts award reception.  State Senator Ed Jones present and provides closing remarks.  Representative Annie Mobley sends written congratulations and remarks. April 26: Denise Richards accepts position as Perquimans Farmers' Market Manager May 26: Grand Opening of Perquimans Farmers' Market, Missing Mill Park, Herford, NC
